Taney School Parent/Teacher Association has been existence since 1964, one of the longest established of such organisations in the country. The P.T.A. plays a strong role - concerning itself with fund raising, organisation and running of events and issues affecting the life of the school and its pupils. The Association has always worked alongside the staff of the school and every year, two of its members come from the ranks of the teachers.

One of the key functions of the Association is that of fund-raising. In the past, it undertook with the school the mammoth task of raising money to help build the new school buildings, which were opened in 1994. Funds are always needed and the P.T.A. run regular annual fund-raising events, such as the Fair which is held every year in October and the Dinner Dance, which is held in the Summer.

The P.T.A. is the chief organiser of annual events such as Sports Day (in conjunction with the Sports Committee) and takes care of the entire running of the day, utilising the help of an established network of parent "class representatives" to mark out courses, supervise races, man refreshment stalls and hand out medals!

Every year in May/June, the parents of the new intake of Junior Infants are invited in to the school for a meeting at which they can be introduced to the Infant teachers, receive a pack of information relating to school routine, etc. and meet other new parents. The P.T.A. help out at the door with registration and also provide tea, coffee and refreshments. The PTA committee organises coffee mornings for interest groups and class groups during the school year, sometimes in the school and sometimes in the local Taney Parish Centre.

The P.T.A. has also involved itself in local issues that affect the school such as planning permission disputes and road planning concerns.
